Historic images of the Chin people compiled from the book “IMAGE OF WAR”

About 120 years ago the British, world’s most powerful people at that time, annexed Chin hill, where frontier tribes known as Chin people according to them who never learned how to read or write, were living. A Surgeon-Captain A.G. E Newland wrote a book entitled “IMAGE OF WAR”, who was with the British column annexing the Chins at that time. The book was published in Culcutta, by Thacker, Spink and company in 1894. The book illustrated with 191 photographs taken by the author himself.

The quote “A picture is worth a thousand words” appeared in a newspaper in 1911. According to the Wikipedia online encyclopedia, it is refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed with single still image, and also aptly characterizes one of the main goals of visualization, namely making it possible to absorb large amounts of data quickly. Today, these photographs are telling us what our ancestors looked like before decent civilization came into our land.

I hope, through these photos, we the Chin people around the world get learned what we really are, and how God raised us from dust to glory in a very short time. Many thanks to Surgeon-Captain A.G. E Newland who left us many invaluable historic photos for Chin people.
